$50 Dining

What a difference a $50 hand me down purchased from a friend’s neighbor and given a fresh coat of paint can make, eh? I’m not saying the plywood didn’t make a statement (one of my designer friends even suggested I sell the line on 1stdibs.com) but my arms were getting splinters and peej was starting to change the shape of it with all of her scratching. This isn’t the end all be all but it will do until I find it, or save enough money for it…whatever comes first :)

If you’re feeling a bit bored with your current set may I suggest you take a spin on craigslist.com. You can find some great deals on crap that you can make beautiful again. A little Killz, a little color, perhaps some new fabric seats and voila! A new dining room. Same can be done with furniture for any room. Old stuff has a lot more character than new stuff most of the time so don’t buy anything until you’ve really done some digging.

I can’t believe that we’ll see the big REVEAL in only 9 days! Too fun. Great job, all.

Been a joy seeing the progress and artistic creation unfold as your house comes alive. I agree-love finding hand-me-downs and discards, then bringing them back to life with some elbow grease and re-tooling!

I’d love to do this with my IKEA table/chairs in my kitchen nook. Paint info, please? :-)

Max- soooo easy! the quick version is this, give everything an even coat of a primer, like KILZ, then finish with whatever spray paint color you choose. if you want something a little more polished sand the wood first and add a coat or two, or three, of clear varnish after the paint is dry. i just used high gloss black :)
