Roof, Porch and Birthday

logo

Worked continued on the roof this weekend, the plywood has been laid and I believe the next step will be putting down the actual shingles. I’ve decided on charcoal from Timberline. I am a bit concerned about the heavy look but Ken insists on the 40 lb (was that it?) because they’re the best. Ok, shingles are not my forte so I’ll let him have that one.

Saturday we worked on the front porch, so much fun! We changed the entrance from the side to the front so we had to fill in the old step with concrete first. Then we put up the posts and the railing. I was thinking about doing some original pattern but in the end we just went with the good old 2 x 2′s spaced 3″ apart. It’s classic, it’s not fussy, it works.

Today was Ken’s birthday and guess who forgot? Yep, Robert and I did. We got to the jobsite late, Ken made us breakfast, Robert had to leave, Ken and I started figuring out cabinet details and it wasn’t until I was being a combative jerk that I was reminded that September 13th is, in fact, my dad’s birthday. I felt so bad I cried. I made it up to him though with his favorite dinner :)

Other weekend accomplishments:

-Function, location and design have been decided for the kitchen and laundry cabinets.

-Door hardware has been decided.

-The master bath details have FINALLY been worked out.
