Say “Trees” :)

logo

We have been thinking about landscape since we started this whole thing two months ago but nothing has really inspired any of us…until yesterday.

Ken had just finished sharing his concern about finding an acceptable nursery to go to (not only is he a genius contractor but he’s got a bright green thumb as well) when we passed one right on our way home from lunch. While attempting to make a u-turn I had to pull into a shopping plaza where there just so happened to be our inspiration! We parked, got out to take some pictures and then made our way to the nursery. Ken was in heaven, seriously. He was running around like a kid in a toy store, stopping to check out every tree and flower we came across.

I want to wait until we paint the house but I think Ken will have in some plants before the end of the week.

No more “Mr. Ed” door? Good! Kotz were going to jump right out of the other one!

I love the ferns mixed with the flax. And I don’t remember the name of the little gray clumping grasses, but they offer such a nice pop. Very, very pretty!

I know this is the fun part, but my very rational / “do things in the proper order” / exercise patience brain says to wait for the paint, etc. before landscaping. It’s not cost effective to re-do what you’ve damaged in the midst of construction. (And I fall in love with all the ‘babies’ I plant and hate to hurt them!) But, that’s just me….

Very beautiful. How about more Hydrangeas? Will you have several different colors?

And, after seeing the outside colors, I’m even MORE inclined to go with the white trim inside.

oooh you know what I love– and know its going to change so my love affair will end, but I love the waffle tin roof and the funky paint on the spider shack! And the clothes line in that shot with the windows…fantastical.

Anyhow- back on subject. Rock on with the ferns and the Jurassic inspiration! Palms, ferns and color-the best part is going to the nursery throughout the seasons and finding new colors and textures to add in. Damn- there was a great Donino issue that had your yard inspiration I can see it now- and it was a house in LA too..Potato trees are fun too, not too tall and they’re purple flowers are muy bonita, it would fit in great and do well, and add some hight:

Ferns, impatiens and begonia. Very nice. I have those down at my little pond area, too. Can you believe they grow in Wisconsin?!
